Acupuncture and acupressure are alternative therapies that have been used for thousands of years to promote health and well-being in both humans and animals, including pets.

These practices are based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which views the body as an interconnected system of energy pathways, known as meridians, through which life force energy (Qi) flows.

The goal of both acupuncture and acupressure is to balance the flow of Qi, thus restoring health and alleviating pain and discomfort. 

Acupuncture:

1. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points along the body's meridians to stimulate Qi and restore the body's natural balance.
2. In veterinary acupuncture, the needles are inserted into specific points on the pet's body to treat various health conditions and promote overall well-being.
3. The needles are typically left in place for a short period, ranging from a few minutes to 30 minutes or more, depending on the treatment plan.

Acupressure:

1. Acupressure involves applying pressure with the fingers, thumbs, or specific tools to the same acupoints used in acupuncture, instead of using needles.
2. The practitioner applies firm pressure to the acupoints, stimulating Qi and promoting healing and pain relief.
3. Acupressure can be used as a hands-on therapy by a practitioner or taught to pet owners for them to use at home
